Snowy mountain itinerary(Courtesy social Media)

Itinerary 1:

First day -
Left from Parramatta at 9 am and reached Canberra at 12 pm. Covered parliament and Telstra tower and then check in to hotel. Stayed in heart of city (Medina service apartments) so that we could walk down to Canberra city centre which is good shopping place and also walked down to Casino.

Second day –
Left at 8 am from Canberra and reached snowy at 10 30 am. We went to Bullock flats from where you get trains to Perisher Valley. If you have SUV or 4WD car then chains are not required ($25 per tyre) however to go to perisher valley in car, you need to pay $30 per day entry fee. Alternatively you can buy train ticket at bullock flats. Chains not required until bullock flats which is 20km ahead of Jindabyne. When you buy train tickets, take a package at station itself for Scenic chairlift, clothes, boots/gloves and toboggans. But best idea is to hire clothes and toboggans from Cooma (80km ahead of snowy mountains) as it will be cheaper there. If you want, you can stay at Jindabyne or Cooma which will be cheaper than snowy mountains. Best time to go is in July and August as there will be full on snow. But definitely do Tobaggan. It was fun. It is also interesting to learn Ski/Snow board there.
After we finished spending whole day at snow we left from snowy mountain around 5 30pm and reached Canberra at 8 pm.

Third day – Checked out at 10 30 am. Went to Dinosarus muesuem, Mount Ainslie, war memorial and lake griffin. The thing we did not cover is Botanical garden and glass museum which you can cover on third day and come back to Sydney by night.

Itinerary 2:

There are 2 options depending what you want to do.

Thredbo if you into sking. It's hardcore for ski & nothing much. No tobogun allowed.
Perisher otherwise. Ski, tobogun, play in snow, tube rides etc at Perisher. It's where you will find most family go. From Perisher you can go to Blue Cow.
Also you can visit Charlotte Pass which is highest point. It's beautiful view snow covered everywhere. No other activities. Cable car is at both places Thredbo & Perisher.

Itinerary 3:

Left Friday evening and check into Bunhouse hotel at cooma.
Left early to Snowy mountains Saturday morning.
Drove to Smiggin Holes and had lunch at cafe, enjoyed snow there and took free shuttle to perisher valley.
Did tobaggan at perisher valley and came down to Smiggin Holes in evening.
Had coffee and snacks and then headed back to cooma. Lot of options to eat at cooma.

Checked out Sunday morning. Driving to Canberra mountain Ainslie and will have yummy Indian food at Canberra and then back to Sydney by Sunday evening.

Itinerary 4:

First things first, Presently its not snowing actively there. Though We really enjoyed the Thredbo and Perisher.

I booked a Stay Home at Thredbo via STAYZ. it came to nearly 1500$ for 3 days. Since we are 3 families it worked out for us. as we have kids and elders, we could fully utilize kitchen and other utilities.
Carrying chains is not mandatory to Thredbo but its Mandatory to Perisher. As I said, we only need to carry, since the roads are fully operational and good, no need to put on chains.

We booked at thredbo as most of the accomodation are booked out at Jindabyne.
Jindabyne is the centrepoint for both thredbo as well as Perisher.
We hired snow suit, chains,  from www.bpskihire.com.au ( its right beside BP Petrol bunk)
I find them cheaper and very friendlier and customer focussed.
Temp reaches to -1 at Thredbo and the our vehicles are covered with thin layer of snow in the mornings.
if its family take a day pass to chair lift at thredbo for 37$ it has two lines operating at the moment. @perisher its 30$
snow is very good at perisher but less crowd at thredbo.
Thredbo night life is awesome. and people drink and dance after skiing. live music.
Enjoy and travel safe.

Buying chains for car:

There is a shop called as bpskihire in jindabyne.. if you book online you get 20% discount.. they operate 24 hours.. you just need to buy one pair of chains.. it comes as two.. they even give you demo how to put chains.. actually its required only if its snowing at that time.. rest of the time you need to keep them handy in your boot

we have been in our car.. and the temperate dropped for -3.. didnt face any issue with engine fuel or any kind of fuel issue.
there will be thin layer of ice that will be formed if you park your car overnight..

check if your accomodation provide covered car park

chains are mandatory to "CARRY" and you only need to fit them when its snowy

generally the roads are good enough

Tickets :

You may like to take deals or coupon available on various sites like Cudo, Groupon etc. It's cheaper & better. Deals available for gears as well.
